Imagine hearing the native sounds of faraway countries and cultures. You’ve just entered mile 2, The International Mile.
The International Mile is coordinated by the Mohawk Valley Resource Center for Refugees, and sponsored by Mohawk Valley Community College to showcase Central New York’s rich cultural diversity.
As you run, you’ll see bands and dance groups representing cultures from around the world. Along with the performers, there will be 192 flags of the United Nations member states represented along the mile.
The Mohawk Valley Resource Center for Refugees is forming an International Mile Running Team sponsored by Excellus BlueCross BlueShield, made up of current and former refugees, staff and community members. Any member of the community is welcome to join and support the wonderful diversity that Utica has to offer. Go to http://www.mvrcr.org/InternatinonalMile/runnerregistration.html for information about joining or supporting the International Mile Running Team.
