The Awards Continue

Utica NY (August 2, 2011) - The 2011 Boilermaker Coach DeStefano Award was presented to long-time volunteer Dave Lupinski.
The 'Coach D' award is given in memory of Peter DeStefano; a perennial volunteer who worked as a member of the Boilermaker Chute Crew up until his death in 1988. The following year the Boilermaker instituted the DeStefano Award to a volunteer who exemplifies Pete's selfless traits.
Mr. Lupinski is the Recycling Director at the Oneida- Herkimer Solid Waste Authority. Under Dave's guidance the Boilermaker continues to reduce the amount of waste despite the races growth. Dave can be spotted at virtually every Boilermaker event arranging recycling totes, hauling trash and assuring material is sorted properly.
"Dave's work is the most thankless; yet perhaps of the most important," said Jim Stasaitis, Boilermaker Race Director. "He is truly one of the unsung heroes."
When asked about his thoughts about receiving the award Dave said: "while I'm proud to receive this award, I'm ever prouder that in some small way I have made my community a better and cleaner one."
