The Boilermaker Road Race is pleased to announce this year's winner of the Coach Peter DeStefano Volunteer of the Year Award. This year's Volunteer was chosen for his hard work and longtime dedication to the race.

Our recipient is Lou Matrulli, who has been Boilermaker Park Coordinator since its inception in 1998 and has worked on the memorial pathway since the first red brick was placed in the ground. Last year, Lou also was asked to serve on the newly formed Boilermaker Building Committee to deal with the purchase of a new building for the race administration. Since accepting the volunteer position, he has become the Project Manager for the new Boilermaker Headquarters, and puts in countless hours overseeing the progress. Lou truly represents the Volunteer Spirit of the race.

The Volunteer of the Year award is named after Peter DeSefano or his nickname "Coach D." He volunteered for many years on the Boilermaker chute crew. Coach D was a physical education teacher at Utica Free Academy and passed away 1988. Volunteer of the Year winners carry on the spirit of Coach D.
