Utica, NY (August 15, 2007) - Earle Reed announced that Jim Stasaitis, of Utica, will be the next race director of the Boilermaker Road Race. "I feel Jim will do a great job," said Earle Reed, Boilermaker Road Race Executive Director. Jim has been a volunteer for 22 years. He started volunteering by stuffing goody bags and, 7 years ago, became the Course Director. As Course Director, Jim oversees Course Marshalls Traffic, Photography, Information, Water Stations, Sound, Spectator Events, Sound, Busing, Communication and Baggage. Jim was the recipient of the 2007 Coach DeStefano Volunteer of the Year Award.
"I am excited about this new challenge," said Stasaitis. "I have some big shoes to fill following Bob Ingalls and Earle Reed." Earle Reed founded the race in 1978 and served as race director until 2000. Bob Ingalls served as race director from 2001 until 2007. Jim will oversee the 16 directors, 129 committee coordinators and over 6,000 volunteers.
Jim is also a past president of the Utica Roadrunners and was the race director of the Falling Leaves Race. He is currently the volunteer director of America's Greatest Heart Run and Walk. Jim's appointment is effective immediately. The Boilermaker will be held on July 13, 2008.
