The Boilermaker’s Erie Canal Races are back on the canal and better than ever! Join us Sunday, May 19, 2024, at Whitesboro High School in Marcy, NY for a fast, flat race on the scenic Erie Canal Trail.

Erie Canal Races includes a 10-miler, 5K (3.1 miles), and a two-person 10-mile relay (5 miles per runner). All races will start on the Whitesboro High School track, before getting onto the Canalway Trail at Paul Becker Road. From there, enjoy an out-and-back on the scenic Erie Canal Trail before making your way back to Whitesboro High School for an epic finish on the track!

Start & Finish Location:
Whitesboro High School, 6000 Route 291, Marcy, NY 13403

Distance & Course:
The race will begin on the Whitesboro High School track where runners will complete a partial lap before being led out onto the footpath adjacent to the high school. The path will lead to Paul Becker Road where runners will cross the pedestrian bridge over Route 49 before continuing onto the Canal Trail.

10-Mile runners will turn around just before the Harbor Point Lock and return on the trail to Whitesboro High School to finish on the track. 10-Mile Relay runners will complete their hand-off just before the Harbor Point Lock at the 5-mile mark.

5K runners will follow the same course as 10-mile runners. The halfway point will be clearly marked to direct runners back to the track.

Safety:
The course is restricted to registered runners and official race personnel. Walkers, dogs, skateboards, in-line skates, roller skates, bicycles, and baby joggers/strollers are prohibited. We strongly discourage the use of headphones.

All registrations include:

  • Moisture-wicking tech tee (men’s and women’s cut)
  • Commemorative medal
  • Water stations and on-course support
  • Snacks after the race

The race starts and ends on the Whiteboro High School track, located on Route 291 in Marcy, NY before continuing over the pedestrian bridge at Paul Becker Road and onto the Erie Canal Trail. The 10-mile and 5K races are out-and-back courses; the 10-mile turnaround serves as the hand-off for the two-person relay.

Can I walk the Boilermaker 15K, 5K, or Erie Canal events?

No, walkers are not allowed!

All Boilermaker races, including the 15K presented by Excellus BlueCross BlueShield, 5K presented by Utica National, or Erie Canal Races presented by Wolfspeed are timed events with strict cut-off times:

  • 15K: 2 hours 30 minutes
  • 5K: 45 minutes
  • Erie Canal 10-Miler: 2 hours 30 minutes

Anyone interested in walking can register for the Boilermaker Walk that takes place at Mohawk Valley Community College the Saturday before the Boilermaker.

The only way to register is online through RunSignUp:

Registration will stay open until each event reaches its cap. There is a waiting list for 15K race only.

There are NO paper applications available for any Boilermaker events.
