The Boilermaker 15K presented by Excellus BlueCross BlueShield is the premier event of Boilermaker Weekend. This world-renowned race is often referred to as the country’s best 15K. The Boilermaker 15K is recognized for its entertaining yet challenging course and racing’s best post-race party, hosted by the F.X. Matt Brewing Company, featuring Saranac beer and a live concert!
With plenty of water supports, strong attention to medical detail, and crowd support like no other race, the Boilermaker 15K is an event worth training and traveling for and should be on every runner’s “must-do” list.

Distance & Course:
The course is 15 kilometers (9.3 miles) and was USATF recertified in 2012. The course is marked in miles with ample official water and aid stations. Streets are closed to traffic for 2 hours 30 minutes. The Boilermaker is a USATF-sanctioned event.
Safety:
The course is restricted to registered runners and official race personnel. Walkers, dogs, skateboards, in-line skates, roller skates, bicycles, and baby joggers/strollers are prohibited. We strongly discourage the use of headphones.
New for 2023, the Boilermaker is participating in the USATF Adirondack Region Grand Prix Series. The Grand Prix is a series of races in the Adirondack Region, which covers the Northeastern portion of New York State. USATF Adirondack members can enter their USATF membership number during registration to be scored as part of the series. Runners who complete all the races in the series receive a “Complete the Series” award and runners can earn Competitive Awards based on points scored in the Open, Masters (age 40+), and Age-Graded Divisions. This year’s race will be held on Sunday, July 9, 2023. The Boilermaker is always run on the second Sunday of July.
The 5K Race starts at 7:15 AM, the Wheelchair Race starts at 7:45 AM, and the 15K Race starts at 8 AM.

Registration will stay open until each event reaches its cap. Once the cap is reached in that event, you will have the option to be placed on the waiting list.
There are NO paper applications available for any Boilermaker events.
Priority registration for the 2023 Boilermaker Road Race 15K and 5K will open on Monday, January 9, 2023, at 10:00am. Priority registration includes anyone who registered for the previous year’s event.
Open registration for the Boilermaker Road Race will begin Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at 10:00am. Registration for the Boilermaker Walk will open on Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at 10:00am.
No strollers or pets are allowed in any Boilermaker event.
Yes! Birnie Buses will transport runners from the finish area to the 15K Race start line from 6:00 AM to 7:00 AM. Arrive early for the shuttles. Don’t plan on taking the last shuttle to the start. Pick-up locations are:
There is some street parking near the start line in the area surrounding ECR International and near the finish line at the FX Matt Brewing Company. Space is limited to public streets. There is no special reserved parking, so check your options early.
Yes, for the 15K only. A bag check truck will be located along Dwyer Avenue adjacent to the 15K Start line.
Participants wishing to use this benefit should bring their own clear plastic bag as we are not able to provide them.
Packet pick-up will be held on Friday, July 7th from Noon until 7:00 pm and Saturday, July 8th from 8:00 am until 4:30 pm at the MVHS Health & Wellness Expo on the MVCC Utica Campus located at 1101 Sherman Drive, Utica, NY 13501.
In order to pick up your race packet and incentives, you must show photo ID.
There is limited race day packet pick-up available for the 15K presented by Excellus BlueCross BlueShield. Race-day packet pick-up will open at 6 AM and will have a hard close at 7:45 AM in order to ensure a proper start to the race. It will take place on the east side of ECR International near the start line.
Virtual Boilermaker
All virtual runners receive an authentic race bib and a commemorative pint glass for their event. Virtual 15K runners also receive a finisher’s medal and Virtual 5K runners receive a finisher’s pin.
Virtual registration also includes all shipping fees (U.S. addresses only).

Yes! As soon as each race reaches its caps you will need to opt-in to be placed on the waiting list. You can sign up for the waiting list by going to RunSignUp and following the prompts.
If a spot opens up, you will be notified via e-mail and you will have 48 hours to register from when the e-mail was sent. If you do not register within 48 hours you will be removed from the list. The Boilermaker is not responsible if your e-mail notice goes to your spam folder.

Due to a New York State Department of Transportation construction project on lower Champlin Avenue, a course change will affect both the 15K & 5K races.
Both races will turn off Champlin Avenue at Caroline Street to avoid the construction and follow the posted detour. The detour will require the 15K & 5K starting lines to be altered slightly to ensure proper course distances.

Pre-race 15K shuttles will transport runners from the finish line area to the 15K start line from 5:30 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. Arrive early. Pick-up locations are:
Post-race shuttles will leave from Whitesboro Street behind the Post-Race Party. Shuttles are available to transport runners back to the 15K start.
The Birnie Bus shuttles are for registered Boilermaker runners only. Spectators and volunteers cannot use shuttles.
No! If you have someone running the 5K race you must drop them off. The 5K Birnie Bus shuttle stop at ConMed is a great spot to drop the 5K runners and head to where you are going to park for the 15K race.

The Boilermaker Road Race has a zero-tolerance drug policy.
Athletes who participate in Boilermaker events may be subject to drug testing. Athletes with positive drug test results will forfeit any prize money and will be disqualified from the event in which such athlete participated.
The Professional Road Running Organization (PRRO) is an alliance of race directors who together organize and promote the PRRO Circuit, a series of premier non-marathon road racing events. The Circuit features highly competitive elite fields at each event as top athletes seek to qualify for the PRRO Super Bonus paid out at the annual PRRO Championship, which rotates among all of the events. The current Circuit features more than $410,000 in prize money overall, with $132,000 available for U.S. athletes.
