Marrone Hopes to Return to the Boilermaker
Jul. 5, 2011
July 5th (Utica NY) - Doug Marrone, head football coach of Syracuse University, is planning on running the Boilermaker 5k.
In late June, Marrone underwent arthroscopic surgery to repair a torn meniscus on his right knee.
"It would take a big-time injury for me to miss the Boilermaker" said Marrone. "I have as a goal to run the 5k Race; we'll see how the knee feels prior to the event. At the very least I'll come and cheer on my wife who is running the 15k."
This would represent the second year that Coach Marrone has participated in the Boilermaker.
"We are obviously excited that Doug has decided to come back to the Boilermaker" said Tim Reed, executive director of the race. "We welcome him in any capacity he can be involved."
In other news Syracuse University will be the official sponsor of the orange slices handed out to the 17,000 finishers of the Boilermaker 15 and 5k races. It is expected that Otto the mascot will be making an appearance.
