Boilermaker Field Nearly Full, Women Are Winning
Mar. 5, 2012
Utica N.Y. (March 5, 2012)to date, 10,657 have signed up for the 15k, while 1,027 are registered for the 5k. Last year at this time 4,266 runners were signed up for the 15k and 425 for the 5k.
"Should this volume of registration continue the 15k race will sell out in March" said Race Director Jim Stasaitis, "the only question is if it sells out early or late in the month."
Currently 43 states and the District of Columbia have representation. Two foreign counties, Canada and Grenada countries have participants registered.
This year a registration cap has been set for both the 15k and 5k races. The cap is set for 14,000 runners for the 15k and 4,000 for the 5k. The 3-Mile Walk, which takes place Saturday, July 7th, will not be capped.
Presently 51%, of the Boilermaker field, are women, 49% men. Should this continue this would be the first Boilermaker where the majority of the participants, are women.
Currently on-line registrations are being accepted at boilermaker.com. In an effort to be a 'green' race there will be no paper application.
The 35th running of the Boilermaker will take place Sunday, July 8th 2012.
In an effort to keep local runners aware of registration numbers for the 2012 Boilermaker the race will periodically send current totals to the media.
