July 16, 2013 (Utica N.Y.)- The Boilermaker Shadow Run held at Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan featured not only high temperatures but high participation. Over 800 U.S. and allied forces signed up for the event with 612 finishing. The previous largest shadow run was held in Bagdad Iraq with 335 running 9.3 miles. The winning time clocked in at 55 minutes. 'Temperatures were absolutely brutal topping 100 degrees by the end of the race' said Sergeant First Class David Fryman, Bagram race director.' The troops really appreciated the Bagram Boilermaker tech shirts and finisher's pins the Boilermaker sent over'. At the end of the race, participants signed the Start/ Finish Line banner to present to Boilermaker staff in Utica when the unit returns from deployment. This event marks the 6th Boilermaker Shadow Run commencing in 2008. To date three races have taken place in Iraq and three in Afghanistan.
