Boilermaker Bestows DeSefano Award

 June 24, 2014 (Utica, NY)- The Boilermaker Road Race is pleased to announce this year's winners of the Coach Peter DeStefano Volunteer of the Year Award. Two Volunteers were chosen this year award for their hard work and longtime dedication to the race. Our first recipient is Donna Freitas who is has been the Water Stop Captain at Faxton - St Luke's Healthcare for the past 27 years, keeping our runners well hydrated. Our second recipient is Bob "Coach" Carlson who has headed up the Traffic and Safety Committee for 25 years, helping to maintain a safe course for all the participants. Both represent the true Volunteer Spirit of the race.

The Volunteer of the Year award is named after Peter DeSefano or his nickname "Coach D." He volunteered for many years on the Boilermaker chute crew. Coach D was a physical education teacher at Utica Free Academy and passed away 1988. Volunteer of the Year winners carry on the spirit of Coach D.   


The 37th running of the Boilermaker Road Race will take place Sunday July 13th in Utica, New York.
