July 12, 2014 (Utica, NY)- There is the potential of a large storm system moving into the Utica area at some point tomorrow. This storm has produced both heavy rains and thundershowers. Current models are, at present, unclear as the arrival of the storm.
The race, in conjunction with government safety officials, after consultation with the National Weather Service will make a determination at 5:00 AM Sunday morning on the ability to conduct the race in a safe manner. At that point we will use both traditional and social media to inform our runners and volunteers the status of the races.
We are planning on having the announcement posted at boilermaker.com as well as using the assets of our local media partners.
Among possible scenarios could be the shortening or curtailing of the Post Race Party.
While we are obviously hopeful to put this year's race on, we take very seriously the safety of our runners, volunteers and spectators.
In light of these developments, if the races do take place, we strongly urge people who are not capable of completing the 15k course in two and half hours not to participate.
