Boilermaker Road Race, Honest John's Hot Dogs and NY Beef Council Present Food Bank of Central New York with Check

Jul. 27, 2016

On Monday, July 25, 2016, a check in the amount of $1,211.68 was presented to Food Bank of Central New York by representatives from the Boilermaker Road Race, Smith Packing, and the New York Beef Council. The check represents the funds raised during the hot dog sale at the Boilermaker Expo. Runners, their families and friends were able to purchase delicious Honest John's Hot Dogs. With the funds raised, Food Bank of Central New York will be able to acquire and distribute enough food for 3,605 nutritious meals.

Honest John's, the official hot dog of the Boilermaker, donated the hot dogs for the fundraiser while Bimbo Bakeries/Freihofer's supplied the rolls. The staff of Sodexo at MVCC ensured that cooked hot dogs were available for sale throughout both days of the Boilermaker Expo. All hot dogs sold for $1 each and many generous donations were received as well. Food Bank staff and volunteers led the hot dog sale at the Expo.

"The snowball effect of our #dogs2donate campaign has been overwhelming.  Social media posts and shares resulted in the donation of three cases of Honest John's All Beef Hot Dogs, New York Beef Council matched this donation and Smith Packing doubled the donation for a grand total of 12 cases equaling over 1150 hot dogs being donated to the food bank," said Jean O'Toole, Director of Integrated Marketing Communications. "NYBC is very excited to be part of this endeavor!"

"Smith Packing Company would like to thank the Boilermaker road Race, Food Bank of Central NY, NY Beef industry Council, MVCC, & Sodexo for contributing to this fundraiser to support our community.  When multiple different agencies find ways to work together, positive outcomes happen," stated Eric Smith, President, Smith Packing Company. Tim Reed, President, Boilermaker Road Race added "The Boilermaker is, once again, happy to support the Food Bank of CNY in their mission to eliminate hunger in our community."
