2016 Sitrin Wheelchair Challenge Winner Receives Racing Wheelchair

October 25, 2016 (Utica, NY) The Boilermaker Road Race and Sitrin Health Care presented a racing wheelchair to Mike Smithson of Syracuse, NY on Tuesday afternoon, October 25th at the Sitrin Medical Rehabilitation Center. Smithson was the winner of the 2016 Sitrin Wheelchair Challenge.
The Sitrin Wheelchair Challenge celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2016 and awards a custom-built racing wheelchair to a Boilermaker participant who completes the 15k race in a standard wheelchair in under 2 hours and 15 minutes. Smithson completed the 2016 race in 1 hour and 49 minutes and becomes the 28th challenger to win a racing wheelchair through the program. Wheelchairs have been a part of the Boilermaker for more than 20 years but the official wheelchair committee was first organized in 1997.
