Mar. 22, 2017

Utica Comets players distribute sports equipment to area youth.

Center Curtis Valk and defenseman Evan McEneny of the Utica Comets met with youth from Midtown Utica Cultural Center (MUCC) at Boilermaker headquarters on Tuesday, March 21st to hand over the equipment that was collected during the Skates n Sneaks Sports Equipment Drive in early March.

From March 3rd – 5th, the Boilermaker and Comets teamed up to conduct the drive at the Utica Memorial Auditorium. In its first year, the drive collected over 90 pairs of gently used athletic footwear of all sizes and for a wide variety of sports, from hockey skates to golf spikes. In addition, the drive collected over 40 pieces of additional sports equipment ranging from complete youth golf sets to baseball bats, hockey sticks, and lacrosse sticks.

"Once again, we are simply amazed by the community's generosity in support of each and every charitable cause," said Boilermaker President, Tim Reed. "We want to thank Rob Esche and the Comets organization for partnering with us on this event."

The 40th running of the Boilermaker Road Race will take place on Sunday, July 9th, 2017.
