The Boilermaker Road Race unveiled its vision for a new "Unity Mile" along the race course at last week's full committee meeting hosted by the FX Matt Brewery. The announcement was made by Boilermaker President, Tim Reed, along with Mayor Robert Palmieri and Tony Colon from Utica's Access and Inclusion Committee.

The Unity Mile will take place along the second mile of the 15k course, roughly between Albany Street and Sherman Drive. The focal point of the mile will be in front of MVCC who is a partner in the Unity Mile along with the City of Utica. The Unity Mile is an attempt to create an energetic and packed viewing section that highlights not only Utica's cultural diversity but all of the unique organizations that call Utica home. According to the Boilermaker's website, "Runners will experience a wall of sound and color unprecedented in the road racing community."

"Boilermaker week is already a time when our city comes together as one. The Unity Mile is our attempt to distill that Boilermaker spirit into one mile of the race on Sunday morning," said Boilermaker President, Tim Reed. "The Boilermaker is already nationally renowned for its community and spectator support. The Unity Mile is really our attempt to up the ante for our 40th running."

"I am excited to help celebrate the unveiling of the Unity Mile. It is representative of the culturally diverse landscape that makes our city welcoming to all," said Utica Mayor, Robert Palmieri. "We encourage you to join us along the Unity Mile on race day to help support our runners and showcase everything that makes our city special."

Free, convenient parking for organizations and spectators is available on the MVCC campus. Due to its early location along the race course, the time commitment for participating organizations is also minimal. More information on the Unity Mile and a list of participating organizations are available at http://www.boilermaker.com/events/unity-mile.php.
