Boilermaker Asks Volunteers to Register ASAP

Apr. 27, 2021

While it remains too soon to definitively know if and how the Boilermaker on its postponed date of October 10th, 2021, Boilermaker officials are asking its volunteer base and any prospective new volunteers to help the planning efforts by formally registering to potentially volunteer in October as soon as possible.

In order to meet contact tracing requirements, the Boilermaker will be using its race planning software, RunSignUp (RSU), to centralize its direct contact information for its army of loyal volunteers.

By registering now, volunteers will not be committing to volunteer for the event in October nor will they be guaranteed a volunteer spot as this year's needs are not yet known. However, individuals who have not registered in the system will not be eligible to volunteer this year should they be needed.

"While we are in this holding pattern with regards exactly to what a return to an in-person event will look like, we want to take this time to ensure that we could quickly and efficiently contact our volunteers should the need arise down the road," said Mark Donovan, Boilermaker President. "Many of our volunteers should be familiar with this process, but we know that it will be new to many and once we have clarity on what we will be able to do, we will be facing a very truncated timeframe to plan for what will likely be a very different, yet in-person, Boilermaker. We are hopeful that our volunteers will take the few minutes needed to register now so we will have one less important task to worry about once we receive the green light".

Registering is fast, simple, and is an important piece of the events safety plan.

There are several ways to register:

  1. Visit boilermaker.com, click the "Volunteer" button (top right of the page) and follow the process from there.
  2. Go directly to RunSignUp using the following link (runsignup.com/race/volunteer/NY/Utica/Boilermaker) and follow the process from there.

Past volunteers should be hearing directly from their coordinator or director with additional information. If they have any questions, all are encouraged to contact their coordinator or director or reach out directly to Cindy Dardano, Boilermaker Volunteer Director at either cindy@boilermaker.com or 315-731-3705.

The Boilermaker is working closely with state and local officials to develop plans to host a safe, in- person event on a meaningful scale on Sunday, October 10th, 2021. It is hoped that more specific information will be available in late June with a target to open race registration in July.

The 44th Boilermaker Road Race will be held on Sunday, October 10th, 2021.
