F-16 Flyover to Buzz Boilermaker Sunday

Oct. 8, 2021

Boilermaker Sunday will once again feature a military flyover. Two F-16 aircraft will conduct a flyover of the Boilermaker Post-Race Party at 10 AM. The jets will be piloted by Major Troy Masserant and Major Nick Hanna, a Utica native and 2003 Proctor graduate.

The Boilermaker flyover is one of the most beloved race-day traditions; however, it is challenging to secure a military flyover. From 2010 to 2018, Boilermaker flyovers were conducted by civilian aircraft before the combined efforts of the Boilermaker, Senator Joe Griffo and Major Hanna (then Captain) himself were able to bring the jets back to Utica for the 2019 race, the last time an in-person Boilermaker was run.

Prior to the official flyover the jets will be flown over the following areas between approximately 9:15 and 9:30 AM: Sylvan Beach, Rome, Clark Mills/Kirkland, Sangertown Square in New Hartford, Oriskany Boulevard, Marcy, Deerfield/North Utica, Culver Ave, Memorial Parkway, Utica College, and along route 8 through New Hartford, Washington Mills, Chadwicks, Sauquoit and Clayville.
