The 2022 Boilermaker will commemorate its 45th running with runners from near and far participating both in-person and virtually.

In the FAQs below, we lay out those changes as answers to your most important questions.

What are the race capacities this year?


  • 15K presented by Excellus BlueCross BlueShield 14,500

  • Utica National 5K 4,500

How is the Boilermaker preparing for the health and safety of everyone from a COVID-19 perspective?

The Boilermaker will follow local & federal COVID safety guidelines in place come race day. As of 2/1/22, in order to participate in the July 2022 Boilermaker, all participants must be able to provide at the point of packet pick-up, proof of either vaccination or a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours of the events as well as photo ID.

What are the race fees and race incentives for the 2022 Boilermaker?


    For 2022, the race fee schedule will be as follows:

    PRIORITY REGISTRATION - 3/3/22 to 3/10/22
    Runners who completed any of the 2021 races are eligible to register during this period.
    • 15K (in-person and virtual): $60
    • 5K (in-person and virtual): $50

    Tier 1 - 3/11/22 to 4/20/22
    • 15K (in-person and virtual): $65
    • 5K (in-person and virtual): $55

    Tier 2 - 4/21/22 to 5/31/22
    • 15K (in-person): $70
    • 15K (virtual): $65
    • 5K (in-person): $60
    • 5K (virtual): $55

    Tier 3 - 6/1/22 to 6/30/22
    • 15K (in-person): $75
    • 15K (virtual): $65
    • 5K (in-person): $65
    • 5K (virtual): $55

    Virtual Boilermaker
    • All virtual runners receive an authentic race bib.
    • Virtual 15K runners receive a commemorative pint glass and finisher's medal.
    • Virtual 5K runners receive a commemorative pint glass and finisher's pin.

Can I walk the Boilermaker 15K or 5K races?

No, walkers are not allowed! Both the 15K and 5K races are timed events with time limits. Anyone interested in walking can register for the Boilermaker Walk that takes place at Mohawk Valley Community College on Saturday, July 9, 2022.

What do I do if I entered incorrect information on my registration?

You can make most corrections yourself prior to the race by logging into your RunSignUp account and updating your information. Email racedirector@boilermaker.com. Include your confirmation number, name, city, state, daytime phone number, and a description of the registration error.

How & where do I pick up my race packet (bib) and race incentives?


    Packet pick-up will be held on Friday, July 8th from Noon until 7:00 pm and Saturday, July 9th from 8:00am until 4:30 pm at the MVHS Health & Wellness Expo on the MVCC Utica Campus located at 1101 Sherman Drive, Utica, NY 13501.

    In order to pick up your race packet and incentives, you must show photo ID and provide proof EITHER of your being vaccinated OR of a negative COVID-19 test done within 72 hours of the events. The Boilermaker will accept proof of vaccination via the NYS Excelsior app (epass.ny.gov) or your hard copy vaccination card. It is incumbent upon you to ensure that you possess the required documentation as there will be no refunds should this become an issue at packet pick-up.

    Race-day packet pick-up will be offered on a limited basis and under the following strict rules:
    • Utica National 5K race-day packet pick-up will be open at 6 AM and will have a hard close at 7 AM in order to ensure a proper start to the race. It will take place next to the 5K start line.

    • 15K presented by Excellus BlueCross BlueShield race-day packet pick-up will open at 6 AM and will have a hard close at 7:45 AM in order to ensure a proper start to the race. It will take place on the east side of ECR International near the start line.

      Proper documentation showing a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours OR vaccination must be provided for race-day pick-up as well.

What if I am unable to attend after registering for the 2022 Boilermaker?

Our normal policies are in place. There are no refunds or deferrals.

Can I transfer my bib (registration) to another runner?

Yes, but please note that the requirement for all participants to EITHER be vaccinated against COVID-19 OR show proof of a negative PCR test within 72 hours of the events applies to the transferee as it does for you.

The Transfer Process will open at noon on Friday, May 1st, 2022. There are no Race Weekend transfers.

Below is the process for you to complete a transfer via your RunSignUp account.

  • Go to runsignup.com, click on "Sign In," and enter your email and password to sign in.
  • Click on "Profile" from the drop-down menu in the upper right-hand corner.
  • Find the event you wish to transfer and select "Manage Registration."
  • Select "Transfer to Another Runner" (located either at the top of the page or in the menu).
  • Confirm the event information and input the recipient's full name and email address.
  • Select the Transfer Type: "Registration Gift" (no refund given to original registrant and recipient will not need to pay) or "Registration Transfer" (refund given to original registrant upon confirmed payment from recipient).

Can I drop my race distance from 15K to 5K?

Yes, however, due to the 5K cap, ONLY the first 500 requests to drop from 15K to the 5K will be accepted. Once the change is made, it is final. Runners will not be able to change back to the 15K and will not be refunded the difference in the cost of registrations.

To drop your 15K entry to the 5K, please email racedirector@boilermaker.com.

Can someone else pick up my bib number?

Yes. Someone else may pick up your bib number, but they must present a note from you authorizing them to do so or a copy of your government-issued photo ID (license, passport, etc.) and proof of EITHER COVID-19 vaccination OR proof of a negative COVID PCR test within 72 hours of the events.

Can I bring my pet to the MVHS Health and Wellness Expo?

No! It is an indoor expo and pets are not allowed in the buildings. Please leave them home where they are safe and cool.

Will there be a bag check available?


  • Yes for the 15K only. A bag check truck will be located along Dwyer Avenue adjacent to the 15K Start line.


  • Participants wishing to use this benefit should bring their own, clear plastic bag as we are not able to provide them.
